    Senior FAQ

    Senior Year Timeline

    All Year

    -Attend area college fairs and go on college visits.

    -Study Hard - many colleges ask for a final transcript and can rescind their original acceptance! Senior year grades DO matter!

    --Apply for every scholarship for which you are eligible.

    -Register on scholarship websites for possible scholarships.

     

    August & September

    -Obtain college applications and begin filling them out.

    -Fill out the Letter of Recommendation Survey about yourself. Give your answers to staff that you want to write you recommendation letters.

    -Apply for scholarships.

    -Sign up for the October SAT, if you choose to re-take it.

    -Meet with your School Counselor for your senior interview.

     

    October

    -Check college applications for early deadlines! We recommend that college applications be sent by Fall Break.

    -Sign up for November SAT, if you choose to re-take it.

    -Apply for scholarships.

    -FAFSA window opens up for students and parents to start the process.

    -Attend a FAFSA (financial aid) workshop with your parents held at WHS.

     

    November

    -Continue the FAFSA process if you have not started.

    -Continue college application process.

    -Apply for scholarships.

     

    December

    -Continue the FAFSA process if you have not started.

    -Make sure you have met college application deadlines!!

    -Apply for scholarships.

     

    January

    -Continue the FAFSA process if you have not started.

    -Keep working on your grades. Senior courses are very important to college admission personnel.

    -Apply for scholarships.

     

    February

    -Complete and submit your Financial Aid Form (FAFSA) by the March 10th deadline to be eligible for state financial aid money.

    -Eligible candidates for Core 40 & Honors Diploma must secure parent's signature and provide your social security number for any financial aid.

    -Apply for scholarships.

     

    March - April

    -FAFSA sends financial aid information to colleges. Colleges send you a financial aid package.

    -Academic Hall of Fame recipients selected, based on 11th trimester transcript.

    -Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Graduation with Distinction determined based on 11 1/2 trimester grades.

    -Apply for scholarships.

     

    May

    -Your college decision should be made by now. Notify any other schools where you were admitted and inform them that you do not plan to attend.

    -Counselors make final check for Core 40 & Honors Diploma.

    -Write thank you notes to scholarship donors who gave you scholarships at WHS Honors Award Program.
