Safety at the Bus Stop:

  • Be on time:
    Parents should ensure their children are at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival time. 
  • Wait safely:
    Children should wait away from the edge of the road and avoid playing or horseplay near the stop. 
  • Know the route:
    Parents should familiarize their children with the walking route to and from the bus stop and the designated drop-off location. 
  • Supervision:
    For younger children, especially Pre-K and Kindergarten, parents are expected to be present at the bus stop for pick-up and drop-off. 
  • Emergency Plan:
    Children should know what to do if a parent isn't at the stop, including where to go and how to get home. 

Communication and Responsibility:

  • Know the rules:
    Parents should review the bus rules with their children and reinforce them regularly. 
  • Communicate concerns:
    Parents should communicate any safety concerns or questions to the school transportation department or the appropriate authorities. 
  • Alternate transportation:
    Parents are responsible for providing alternative transportation if their child's bus riding privileges are suspended or if they need to transport oversized items or live animals. 
  • Bus assignments:
    Children are expected to ride the assigned bus and use their designated stop.

    Safety on the Bus:

    • Follow instructions: Parents expect their children to obey the bus driver's instructions without hesitation. 
    • Stay seated: Children should remain seated for the entire bus ride, keeping the aisle clear. 
    • Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves: This includes avoiding throwing objects on the bus or out of the windows. 
    • Respectful behavior: Parents expect their children to be courteous to the driver and other students, using appropriate language and avoiding loud or disruptive behavior. 
    • No distractions: Parents should teach their children not to distract the driver with unnecessary noise or movement. 
    • No unsafe actions: Children should not put their heads or arms out of the windows.
