Superintendent Message

As with every school year, there is excitement that comes with new beginnings—new teachers, new classmates, new grades, and new schools for some students. Each year brings fresh opportunities, and this year is no exception. Together, we have the privilege and responsibility to make the most of every student's experience at Wawasee. As parents, educators, schools, and community members, we must do all we can to support our students academically, help them develop strong character, and create experiences that make this year both meaningful and memorable as they grow and mature.

Personally, I come to Wawasee with great anticipation and gratitude. Throughout my career, I have served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Exceptional Learners, and Assistant Superintendent. In each of those roles, my purpose has remained the same: to do all I can to support student success. I make that same commitment to the Wawasee community.

As I prepare for my first year as superintendent, I am not starting from scratch. My wife, Kathy, has taught Social Studies at Wawasee High School for 27 years, and over that time I have attended many Wawasee events and witnessed firsthand the pride this community has in its schools. Even so, I know I have much to learn. I am committed to listening first and learning from the students, staff, families, and community members who know Wawasee best. Through the one-on-one conversations I have already had, I have learned a great deal, and I look forward to many more discussions that will help me serve and lead our district well. In our schools, my focus will be on both the immediate and long-term health of the district. It is important to me to be present in our schools and classrooms; to meet with teachers, administrators, and classified staff; to visit athletic and music practices; and to attend school and community events. Presence matters. If I am not actively engaged in our district, it becomes difficult to make informed decisions. The relationships we build and the observations we make together will guide our strategic, long-range planning and help create a roadmap for success and stability in the years ahead.

While serving as superintendent of Wawasee is my profession, I also consider it a calling and a tremendous honor. I will approach every decision with thoughtful consideration, a commitment to understanding all perspectives, and an unwavering focus on what is best for students. I am excited about what lies ahead and confident that, working together, the 2026–27 school year will be a great one for Wawasee.
